The Public Lands Project is a film photography and storytelling project created to document Alaska’s public lands and advocate for their protection.
Alaska’s public lands are more than beautiful backdrops. They are wildlife habitat, old-growth forests, glacial coastlines, recreation spaces, sources of food, and part of the identity of the communities who depend on them. This project is dedicated to preserving and sharing those stories through photography, writing, public engagement, and advocacy.
At the center of the project is film photography captured on vintage cameras from the 1970s and 1980s, the same era when many of Alaska’s major federal land protections were first established. The grain, color, texture, and imperfections of film help connect the work visually to the conservation legacy that shaped Alaska’s public lands decades ago.
For me, photography is more than art. It is a way to preserve memory, document change, and help people feel connected to the land. Film requires patience, intention, and presence. Every frame is carefully considered, which mirrors the heart of this project: slowing down, paying attention, and creating lasting documentation of the places worth protecting.
This project also follows my ongoing advocacy work, including an upcoming trip to Washington, D.C., where I will speak directly with leaders about the future of Alaska’s public lands, conservation, public access, and responsible stewardship. Along the way, I will continue documenting the journey through photography, written updates, travel journals, field reports, and public speaking opportunities connected to protecting Alaska’s wilderness and public spaces.
Visitors to this page can follow project updates, recent film photography, advocacy news, and upcoming events connected to the mission of protecting Alaska’s public lands. A public gallery exhibition connected to this project is currently estimated to release in Juneau, Alaska in spring 2027.
